I love photography for many reasons but one of my favorites is capturing peoples lives over the course of years and life’s big moments. I have known Robert for almost 6 years. I watched him grow up through high school and I used to pick him up and drop him off for youth service. So when I say this session was something special, it truly was!
I used to work at my home church as our Youth and Internship Administrator. I loved every part of that job and miss it literally every single day. One of the most fulfilling things that you can do in your life is to pour into others and watch them grow into amazing young men and women who love Jesus. Robert was one of my first students I was privileged to pour into and watch grow. I met him in 7th grade when he was more quiet and reserved. I remember picking him up for youth service and asking him how school was going and he would reply with a one worded answer; “good” or “eh.” As time went on not only did I continue to pick him up and drop him off for youth service, I also had the honor of serving with him on our youth worship team. He blossomed and grew right before my eyes. Using his voice to worship Jesus not just for himself but for rooms of people desperate to meet Jesus. Those one worded answer became full stories and testimonies of what Jesus was doing in his life.
As our worship team continued to grow we were given the opportunity to lead worship at a youth camp near Dallas and we were elated. Being the only female leader going on the trip, of course I came prepared with all the medicine, food, emergency packs, cough drops, money, anything and everything we may need with my mama instincts at the ready. It was because of that, that on this trip Robert deemed me “mom.” It has been two years and to this day he still calls me “mom” and gives me the biggest bear hug every time he sees me.
Watching him not only turn into this wonderful man of God but also seeing him in a relationship is crazy and makes my heart so full! He graduates in just a few weeks and I cannot wait to see what else the Lord is going to do through him and for him. He really is the sweetest soul and I will gladly accept the nickname of mom and am so excited to capture many more momentous occasions for Robert!
